The current spring release of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is a new milestone in the transformation and historical journey from NAV to BC. Microsoft formally communicated at Directions Asia that this release will be the last release with a Windows Client, C/Side and C/AL. In October 2019 Microsoft ships her application in AL with VS Code only. It was also communicated that in future Business Central on-prem will follow cloud rules.
This means that clock is ticking to refactor and shift your IP to extensions. To do so, your workforce need to move their skills from C/AL and C/Side to VSC and AL. You will also need DevOps, big time. Azure functions, API Webservices and Control Addins will be crucial. The more your workforce will be skilled in this, the more competitive edge you will have. |
