Citizens4Water platform in pre-launch: Share your project

Together with UNESCO, and with support from Flanders, Scivil has been working on Citizens4Water: a global inventory of citizen science initiatives for hydrology and water management.

We're excited to announce that the platform is now live: www.citizens4water.org. Before we start our broad communication to projects worldwide, we’re inviting early contributors to upload their projects and help kick-start the community.

As this is still a testing phase, we’d love your feedback after submitting your project. Please share it via this short form.

DeCYPher: Call for Citizen Panel on biotechnology

Did you know that the scent of pine trees, the vibrant colours of flowers and even some medicines all come from special plant compounds called terpenoids and flavonoids?

Scivil, together with the European DeCYPher project, is organising a citizen panel on biotechnology. In this panel, we’ll explore together how these valuable compounds can be produced in a more sustainable way.

Your voice matters: Help decide which of these plant-based compounds will be included in an open science starter kit for future research.

The panel takes place on 25 October in Ghent (9:00-12:00). No prior knowledge needed.

Survey for citizen scientists

Who participates in citizen science in Flanders? What motivates them, and what challenges do they face? That's what we would like to find out through this survey.

Do you know any citizen scientists, for example participants in your project? You can help us by sharing the survey with them. After the survey closes, you can also receive the results for your project.

Interview

"Because of their responsibility for managing water at the household level, women possess a lot of knowledge about water management. However, this expertise is often overlooked. They are rarely involved in policymaking."

- Sara Dewachter, Institute of Development Policy (UAntwerpen)

Every month, Scivil interviews someone about their experiences with citizen science. This month, we spoke with Sara Dewachter and Nathalie Holvoet of the Institute of Development Policy (University of Antwerp) about Women Water Watch, a project where women from Tanzania monitor water quality.
