Measure air pollution with Plane Tree Check

Did you know that plane trees store particulate matter in their bark? With the Plane Tree Check project (University of Antwerp, UCLouvain, and Scivil), you can contribute to research on air quality yourself. Collect a piece of bark, submit it, and help researchers map particulate matter across Belgium. Participation is open until the end of April.

Save the date: Citizen Science Networking Day 2026

On Monday 28 September 2026, Scivil will once again host the Citizen Science Network Day, this time at Aeropolis, near Schaerbeek station. Together with partners Beweging.net and VUB, we will bring together citizen science initiators from Flanders and beyond for engaging keynotes, workshops, and panel discussions. Registration opens in May, when the full programme will be announced. Save the date and keep an eye on our website!

The European VISAVIS project uses citizen science to help detect and counter online disinformation. With Mediawijs as the Belgian partner and Scivil on the advisory board, the project also targets the general public through a campaign offering practical tips to recognise misleading images.

Course 'Strategic Communication for Participatory Science Practitioners'

The online course 'Strategic Communication for Participatory Science Practitioners' by the American Association for Participatory Science helps participants approach communication in a more strategic and effective way. Over five weeks, they learn how to define target audiences and communicate results clearly. The course starts on 17 April and combines online lessons with live sessions.
