Foreword from our Director

Dear Friends,

First of all, please allow me to introduce myself: I am Anna Widegren, the new Director of the End FGM European Network, having just joined the team a few weeks ago.
I am very happy to become a part of the amazing team of End FGM EU and I feel honoured and grateful to the Board for having entrusted me with the role of Director.
It is incredible to think that we’re already half-way through 2020, and what a strange year it has been so far! With COVID-19 we have all had to face unpredictable challenges, and have had to constantly adapt. In the short time that I have been here, I have seen that the Network, its Members and partners have all still managed to carry out amazing projects and make inspiring actions despite these challenges. This just proves how resilient and resourceful we can be, and how strong we are when we support each other. Now more than ever we have seen how important ensuring everyone’s well-being is and what can be achieved when we work together.
In this newsletter we showcase some of the amazing things that have been going on these last months, and we have been working hard!
Lastly, I wish you all a good summer break, and hope that you can all rest, recuperate and re-energise!

Warm wishes,
Anna

Welcome to our new Team Members!

During the past months, many things changed! Two of our Team Members left the Network for new professional endeavours and, a few weeks ago, we have welcomed a new Director and a new Communications Officer: Anna Widegren and Myriam Mhamedi!

Are you taking part in our 2020 Annual Campaign #endFGMmyths?

This year, for our 2020 Annual Campaign, we are debunking myths and misconceptions about FGM!

How? Every month we are tackling a different myth about FGM and its harmful consequences on women’s lives.

In the past months, we already answered many common questions, such as "Who is affected by FGM?" or "Is FGM linked to religion?". The month of July is dedicated to the question "How is FGM a Gender Equality issue?".

Follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to discover the answers and find out more in the following months!

They realised it is hard to reach out to the younger generations: there is still a huge taboo surrounding FGM and they want to connect with other young people to share their ideas and knowledge on women’s health issues.
The Series will accompany us through the Summer and until the beginning of October, with one video every two weeks.
