The 6th of February was the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation. A day where actors across the globe unite and speak out to raise awareness of the urgency to end FGM. This year the day was bigger and more impactful than ever with more events, more actors coming on board, and increased media slots.

 

In Europe, we witnessed FGM is under the spotlight like never before, the Network and our members hosted more events, we had more online engagement and MEPs in the European Parliament passed a new FGM resolution. The momentum is with us, let's continue to work to #EndFGM.

We launched the FGM cost-calculator with the World Health Organisation!

In partnership with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Belgium Permanent Representation to the EUEnd FGM EU organised the event “The cost of Female Genital Mutilation – scale up investment!”.

The European Parliament says YES to a strategy to end FGM!

On the 12th of February, we went to the European Parliament in Strasbourg to follow the vote for a strategy to end Female Genital Mutilation.

AIDOS – Launch of the “How to talk about FGM” guide in Italy

AIDOS launched the Italian version of the “How to talk about FGM” guide with healthcare professionals. The team also took part in a series of events in Rome and in Brussels.

Parents of 1500 girls committed to not making their daughters undergo FGM, in Kisii South (Kenya).

The National FGM Centre took part in an event hosted by the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, with a focus on raising awareness. With over 80 attendees, the event had expert speakers, including the head of the Centre, Leethen Bartholomew.
